Not too much going on here today. The family are all going out to breakfast, and I'm sitting in a nice quiet house, editing Obsessed. Love it!

Once  I'm done with the edits, I hope to dive into my tbr pile and get some reading done. I've got two new books loaded onto my Kindle waiting to be read. Woot!

If you've got a minute, head on over to My 5 Monkeys and check out the nice review she gave EOS. Woohoo!

Just wanted to make a quick post to wish you all a very merry Christmas. It's been a fast-paced, wonderful year, and I'm so thankful for each and every person who helped my lifelong dream of becoming published come to fruition.

Woohoo Wednesday!

Happy Wednesday, peeps!

Song of the day- Baby, It's Cold Outside (Glee Cast version)

With Christmas just around the corner, family get togethers, good food and drink, there's certainly a lot to be thankful for this week. There's no time like the present, so I'm gonna dive right in!

  • The cold, rainy weather has kept us indoors, which would normally frustrate us, but not this week. We've enjoyed several Christmas movie marathons. Christmas With The Cranks, Deck The Halls, Frosty The Snowman and Yes, Virginia are a few of the flicks we've enjoyed. Next up on the list is my all time fav, Christmas Vacation.
  • I'm especially thankful for the yummy goodies I've been enjoying, though I'm sure my waistline doesn't agree. Chocolate chip cookies, magic bars, snickerdoodles, sugar cookies and hot cocoa all put me in the Christmas spirit. The butt and waist expansion is just an added bonus, lol!
  • As usual, I'm thankful for my friends. Life throws all kinds of trials and stressers at us, and it's those close friends we make that help us through the worst of times.
What about you? What are you thankful for today?

Oh, and if you get a chance, you might want to stop by Goodreads and give a vote to your favorite shmexy faerie :) Just use the write in option at the bottom. While you're there, make sure you vote in the other categories as well. Several Omnific books have been nominated!
Merry Christmas!

Meet an author Monday + cast pics for Pleasures Untold

Happy Monday, peeps!

Song of the day- Last Christmas (Glee Cast version)

With Pleasures Untold slated for an early Spring release (cough...February...cough...I hope...) I thought it might be fun to start throwing some teasers at you.

I've had fun trying to decide who I'd cast as the two main leads, Martha and Xan. Let me tell you, it was no easy feat, and I'm still a bit unsure.  I've yet to find the perfect actor/actress for either. Until I come across perfection, these two beautiful people will just have to do.

For Martha, I've chosen Shenae Grimes.

I don't watch 90210, so I have no clue as to what she sounds like, her mannerisms, or anything else. She's got the right hair and coloring, and is the closest I've been able to find... so far. Straighten that hair, slap on a ton of black eyeliner and makeup and she'd be a contender. I think... Lol!

For Xan, I've chosen Taylor Kinney.

Yes, Xan is Latin. No, this boy isn't. However, he's pretty darn close to what I see in my head, and well...he's just so pretty to look at. Taylor played Mason Lockwood on The Vampire Diaries. I said played, as his character was recently killed (pity.) Bad boy played a hunky werewolf. Check out those abs!!

Okay, on to the hop!

Sports performance tips from guest blogger-Brooke de Lench

Happy Thursday, peeps!

Song of the day- Siren Song by Bat For Lashes

I'd like to give a warm welcome to guest blogger, Brooke de Lench. Hi, Brooke! (waves frantically!)  Thank you so much for joining me on Cali Cheer Mom.

Brooke is the founder and editor in chief of MomsTeam.com. She's been featured on ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox, and is the author of Home Team Advantage:  The Critical Role Of Mothers In Youth Sports.

Today, she'll be sharing her best tips to help young athletes perform their best.

So, without further ado, I give you Brooke!

Helping Student Athletes Perform Their Best
With the school sports season underway, the nation’s 30 million middle and high school athletes face challenges like never before. Competition for roster spots, playing time and athletic scholarships is at an all-time high. Mothers of these athletes are equally challenged with ensuring their kids perform their best in school and on the playing field. To help, sports parenting expert Brooke de Lench – a mom, former athlete, youth coach, author and founder of the sports parenting resource MomsTeam.com – recommends the following game plan:

Blow the Whistle at Bedtime. Studies show that students need nine hours of sleep but only get about seven. Set a consistent “lights out” time for turning off the computer, cell phone and television so young athletes get the rest they need. Consider docking texting and gaming devices away from their bedroom to reduce late-night distractions.

Fuel the Burn. Active young athletes need at least 3,000 calories per day for peak performance, so they need to eat very frequently. Help them maintain energy throughout the day by sending them off with healthy, high-carb, low-fat snacks such as energy bars, trail mix or dried fruit to munch at their desks (if it’s ok with the teacher). Students with early morning workouts should eat two breakfasts – one before the workout and one before school.  So, send athletes to practice with a snack to help them recover and refuel.

Be Proactive About Hydration.  Staying hydrated during the school day is challenging. In fact, studies show that many student athletes start their sports already dehydrated, making it difficult for them to catch up during activity.  For safety and performance reasons athletes need to be hydrated no matter what the season, and water isn’t enough because it doesn’t hydrate as effectively as a sports drink like Gatorade that is scientifically formulated with fluid, electrolytes and carbohydrates to rapidly replace what athletes lose through sweat and provide energy to keep them at the top of their game.

Use Sports Sense to Power Schoolwork. Great athletes are disciplined, focused and dedicated. Help young athletes channel these qualities to manage their schoolwork as well. Encourage them to use free time at school to review notes or knock off smaller assignments. Also, coach them to tackle the tough stuff first. Young athletes will be tired after sports, so they should finish priority and difficult homework earlier in the day.

Don’t Forget the Fun. Youth sports may be increasingly competitive, but the top reason kids play sports is to enjoy the game. Look out for warning signs that students are struggling to enjoy the experience, and work with them to find a solution. Warning signs include: complaints of sickness at practice or game time; slow return to practice after injury; nervousness, anxiety or anger before, during or after the game; practices well but plays poorly.

Brooke de Lench is the author of Home Team Advantage: The Critical Role of Mothers in Youth Sports.

Thank you so much, Brooke!

Found my Martha!

Squee!

No, I'm not the most talented person when it comes to fiddling with graphics and such.

That being said, I couldn't not play around with this image I purchased earlier today. This girl IS Martha.

I'm so excited!

Now I just need to find my Xan :)

Woohoo Wednesday!

Happy Wednesday, peeps!

Song of the day- Stronger by Britney Spears.

Even with the busy holiday season, long work days, messy houses and kids that don't want to listen, there's still so much to be thankful for.  It's so easy to get mired down in all the yuck, all the stress.

That's why I created the Woohoo Wednesday post. It's a great way to slow down for a few seconds and reflect on the good instead of the bad.  I've got quite a bit to be thankful for, so I'll get started.

  • Friday is the last day of school for my girls before they are off for two weeks. No cheer either. Just a nice long break where we can all sleep in and spend the day in our jammies if we want. Squee!
  • Christmas is just over a week away. I love this time of year, and when the girls get out of school it will be great to finally have some time to participate in some holiday activities like baking. Oh, yeah, I'm totally going to get my Betty Crocker on.
  • As promised yesterday, I saved one video from this past weekend to share with you. The video is of Youth Gold (level 2) which both Taryn and Irelynn are on. This particular performance won them a first place trophy, ribbons and shirts. We're all so proud! Oh, and the crazy lady screaming is me. I get a little excited when they perform :D

What are you thankful for today?

We've got video!!!!!!

Woot!

I've been waiting for what feels like an eternity to be able to share full video of this years AP teams. My girls are on four of the seven teams, and man, are they awesome.

This highlight video is the first of several to come over the next day or two. This footage was take from last weeks competition at UC Davis.  The music playing in the background is Sr. Blue (level 2) music. This is Kendall's favorite team. Baby girl rocks the dance section. Ahem...she's in the middle...cough... :D

Enjoy!

Meet an author Monday!

Happy Monday, peeps!

Big weekend at the Sanchez house. My girls performed in their biggest competition of the season. I'm happy to say my youngest two walked away with a first place trophy and t-shirts!  Both of Kendall's teams had some difficulties with stunting and tumbling, but even though they didn't place, we're still very proud. Pictures and video to come :)

On the book front, I caught a glimpse of Martha's cover, and all I can say is WOW!  It's beautiful and I'm in love!!!  Can't wait for you all to see it!

Athletic Perfection in the local paper!

Happy Friday, peeps!

Song of the day- Marry You (Glee Cast Version)  I just bought the fourth Glee CD and have been listening to it non stop. Love it!

Bust day here in the Sanchez household. We're gearing up for another cheer competition. This particular comp is two days and the girls will be facing off with all the best teams in California. It's a big deal, and we're all very excited.

I came across a link from our local paper this morning, bragging on our gym's first place sweep at last weekend's competition in Davis.

Check it out- Tracy Press

Ahem, I'm just going to brag here and say that my younger two are on the youth 2 team that received the all levels bid. Woot!

Can't wait to be able to finally post some video for you all to see.

Have a great weekend!

Review: Soul Stalker by Laura Kreitzer

Happy Thursday, peeps!

Song of the day- Forget You (Glee Cast version)

Such a pretty cover, isn't it?

Goodreads blurb:

Being the Illuminator is not all happiness and light, especially when everyone thinks you are dead. When Gabriella decides to finally let her angels know that she is alive, Joseph and an unexpected friend help her. The Darkness Illuminator is not as in control of her power as she believes, which makes for a very comedic and endearing relationship that blooms between the three. A fender-bender debacle, a run-in with the cops, and a hiccup at the airport seem to all be worth it until Gabriella finds out her plan has backfired.
The three angels are missing, more mysteries pile up, and a new evil is brewing--so terrifying, in fact, that even the Soul Stalker herself is cowering in fear. Our heroine begins a jarring, romance-filled, heart-breaking journey that will lead her back to Italy, and ultimately to the answers she is desperately searching for. What will she do when they aren't the answers she expected? What happens when she unveils a truth, so deeply hidden, that it causes an angelic war?

My review:

I'm going to do my best to write a non-spoilery review, as I don't want to give anything away.

I didn't read many books during the month of November as most of my energies went toward working on my Nano novel, as well as editing and revising another. Soul Stalker was one of the few I did read, and I'm so glad I did!

Laura Kreitzer has a special gift. She not only creates characters you'll fall in love with, she weaves a wonderful tale full of suspense, romance and beautiful description. I fell in love with Gabriella and Andrew in book one of the Timeless Series, Shadow Of The Sun.

Book two, Soul Stalker, delved into Gabriella's inner turmoil. We don't see a lot of Andrew in this installment (gasp!) and although I missed him (he's my favorite angel) I enjoyed getting to know Gabriella better. We see her struggling with the weight of what's happened to her, and how she deals with her newfound powers. We also get a deeper look into her inner turmoil and struggles, as she copes with missing the love of her life, missing her mother and learning just how much the weight of the world rests on her shoulders.

Eeck! I'm getting a little spoilery there.

Here are a few examples of the beautiful imagery Ms. Kreitzer shows us on every page:

"The sun started to fade in the distance which made the clouds seem to catch on fire, but I didn't feel like panicking ... not quite yet. We still had time before the sun rounded the earth to leave us, to light another part of the world."

"He was different again, like an angel with big wings that spanned graciously behind his back. The feathers were pearly white and when light caressed their smooth expanse, they shone like iridescent opal."

Soul Stalker was a very enjoyable read and I'm anxiously awaiting the next installment in the series.

My rating:   Four stars!

Woohoo Wednesday!

Happy Wednesday, peeps!

I have quite a bit to be thankful for today, so I'm going to just dive right in, fill you all in on my stressful day yesterday, and why I'm positive God hears and answers our prayers.

Around 7:30 yesterday (give or take a few minutes, I was running late) my middle daughter comes running into the bathroom where I was styling my youngest's hair, screaming at the top of her lungs.

"I'm bleeding!"

I dropped what I was doing to see her arm raised, her thumb smashed and bloodied.

"What did you do?" I shouted.

"I slammed my thumb in my closet door!"

Oh, crap.  Not good,  I think. I shoved her bloody thumb under the sink and turned on the water so I could get a better look at her injury. Blegh! It was bad. Poor baby sliced open the tip of her thumb and a huge flap of skin was hanging loose.

I knew right away she was going to need stitches, so after a quick call to the hubby, I bandaged her up, got everyone in the car and drove straight to the doctors.

To make a long story short, the doctor was concerned she may have broken the tip of her thumb. This, of course, would have been a devastating blow as my daughter is supposed to compete this weekend. All the top cheer teams from around the state will be at this particular competition, and she was very scared she wouldn't be able to perform.

Needless to say, lots of prayers were said, and ultimately answered. Taryn's thumb is not broken, she had her cut glued, not stitched, and she is bouncing off the walls with excitement that she'll still be able to compete with her teammates.

Mommy and coaches can all breathe a huge sigh of relief. Phew!

So that's my drama. Anything happen that's made you especially thankful? Weigh in with a comment!

Review- Breaking Point (The Order of the Elements #1) by Jess Bowen

Happy Thursday, peeps!

Song of the day- Raise Your Glass by P!nk

Review:  Breaking Point (The Order of the Elements #1)

Goodreads blurb:

"On our most honored of days, one that none have ever called their own, five will be born. Four will be the Masters of the Elements, fierce warriors, and with talents of immeasurable greatness."

Phoebe Johnson and Ethan Smith had everything they needed: loving parents, great friends, and admission letters to Ivy League schools they’d be heading to in the fall. If only they knew that they were never going to reach the end of that summer, at least, not in the world they knew. A secret waits to be revealed on the eve of their nineteenth birthday, a secret that is going to change their lives forever when it leads them to a place they never believed existed, love they could never imagine living without, and power they never suspected they possessed.

Jess Bowen expertly plunges readers into an imaginative, supernatural world that refuses to bow down to the darkness that’s all but taken over. Amidst this adventurous quest for a lost prophecy, Bowen weaves in powerful tales of love that will leave the characters and readers breathless.

My review:

Wow!  I just finished this book yesterday, and I feel like I've been on a whirlwind adventure.  I will be honest and say that at first, I wasn't sure how I felt about the book. I didn't immediately connect with Ethan and Phoebe when they were still living in the mortal world. Once they journeyed to the magical realm, though (which happens quickly) I was hooked, and couldn't put the book down.

Breaking Point is a great YA romance, and contains a bevy of supernatural elements that will satisfy any fan of paranormal romance. From elemental powers, to mythical creatures, the book has it all. What I enjoyed the most was the connection between the characters. To be specific, I really enjoyed the soul connection between Ethan and Lucy, and Phoebe and Dorian.

Sigh...Dorian.  He comes off as an ass at first, with his strict, militaristic attitude, and cold demeanor. But, Phoebe sees past his charade when others don't and realizes quickly that shmexy boy is quite the catch. The two share a magical, soul connection that left me breathless on more than one occasion while reading. The spark between those two characters literally leapt off the page.

The same can be said about the connection between Ethan and Lucy, who I found to be an adorbale couple. Having lived in the magical realm her entire life, Lucy knows all about the soul connection she and Ethan share, but is unable to expound on it much with him because of some type of ban. This was a little frustrating for me, as I want to know what the deal is between those two ...like now!  Little snippets where left throughout, but the bulk of the explanation about connection was left unanswered, most likely to be brought up again in the future books.

Phoebe is a very strong character, who I really enjoyed, for the most part. There were a few instances when she became overly bossy and rude, but given her situation, the weight of her powers and all that she'd been through, I can understand the why of her actions.

Ethan, also a strong character, struggles with self-doubt and a slight inferiority complex throughout. It was interesting to see those struggles play out internally throughout the book, and somewhat refreshing to see a strong male character flounder a bit. Bad Boy pulls it together in the end, though, and holy heck, his powers are amazing!

The rest of the cast are as interesting as the main characters, and I can't wait to see what happens to them in the future books.

Warning:  There's a major cliffie at the end that had me shouting last night. My poor puppies thought I was a crazy woman. I'll now be waiting very impatiently to find out what happens. I can only hope Ms. Bowen writes fast!

My rating:  Four stars!

Woohoo Wednesday and an interview

Happy Wednesday, peeps!

Song of the day- Please Don't Go by Mike Posner (Kendall LOVES this song)

It's December. YAY!!  I feel like I've been away from my blog for an eternity. Now that November (and Nanofail) is over, I'm ready to jump back into the swing of things with regular posts, book reviews and the like.

With that said, let's jump right into Woohoo Wednesday and share some things we're excited about and thankful for.

  • I'm starting off this weeks woohoo post with a bang. I'm thankful for the contract I just signed for my romantic suspense, Obsessed. Squeeee!!!
  • This Sunday is my girl's first cheer competition of the season, so I'm nervous and excited for them all at the same time. Should be a lot of fun
  • I'm thankful for a drama free Thanksgiving spent with my wonderful family.
What about you? What are you thankful for?

Also, if you get a chance, please take a minute to stop by my very talented author friend's blog- Jennifer Lane Books Blog, and check out the interview I did with her. She's a real sweetheart, and her debut novel, With Good Behavior is fabulous!
